July 1st 12:00pm EST = Free Agent FreakOut

Today marked that special time where all the rich and wanna be rich teams in the NHL go crazy and offer up insane money and insane years for the "stars" of the NHL. Chicago must have forgotten they have baby Kane and Toews sitting in the wings waiting for their giant raises when they threw that 12 year contract at HOSSA!. Montreal took on terrorist face and then added Gionta and Cammerelli to add up to the Preds entire budget on 3 people... I wonder how their D is going to function now that they let Komisarek go and that they're stuck with "Mr. I'm Over-rated Price"? I think it would be funny to see them crash and burn, along with the Hawks. The Rangers made a splash today signing glass Gaborik so it's going to be interesting to see how things work out for them too.

While some Nashville fans seem underwhelmed or disappointed in what we accomplished today, I'm thrilled. At lunch time I felt defeated by all of the signings that were happening everywhere but here. I was frustrated because looking at the lists of FA's available I knew most of them were going to get far more than what we could be able to offer them. I'm not of the mindset of "it's better than nothing". I think it's better than if we had gone out and broke the bank on someone that we don't know how they'll click while risking the future of our team. We've seen how good the SAD line is when they're together. I didn't jump around the office for nothing. I still think we need one more offensive piece to fill out our team and that's pretty obvious but for the little hope I had earlier this afternoon, it's alot less hopeless.

One last thing, Fiddler is now a Coyote. I wanted him back badly but I knew it wasn't going to happen. Seeing the word "Coyote" next to his name had me near hysterical. Shocked is the best word. Everyone else may be saying they're glad he's gone but I'm not. He was my 2nd favorite player and it's sad. I hope he does well there but I still hope that team is a bottom feeder. If Gretzky would go away my feelings would change.

  1. The Habs spent way too much money on small (Gionta, Cammalleri, Gomez, Spacek) and slow (Gill), but they were still outdone in stupidity by Chicago. Somebody needs fired there.
